New Year's Party for the kids at the Hauy Pong Childrens' Home. December 27th 2006
On December 27th 2006 we held a New Year's Party for the kids at the Hauy Pong Children's' home. We asked the children to decide the format of the evening and they chose to have street vendor style food stools around the outside of the dining hall and after the 'serve yourself meal' there was a disco at which every child there was dancing and as the photos illustrate really enjoying the evening, although the energy of some disappeared faster than others!
The majority of these children will have to remain at the home until they are 18 years of age as they are either orphans, been abandoned by their family (which in many cases means that they do not really know who they are) or from desperately poor families who have no hope of caring for them.
At the end of the evening each child received a parcel of gifts and each parcel contained at least two items that the child had requested. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters this year the donations for the party exceeded our planned budget so we were able to add a few extra items for each child which made the evening that much more special.
